Farming vs Paper Crafting

Farming vs Paper Crafting

Farming the family operations vs Papercrafting! I bet you’re wondering how these two are related. Well friends, since I recently retired I continue to wear many hats. My husband and son operate our row crop of corn and soybeans along with a little hay.  Farming has been in both our families for years.  My son will be fourth generation.  Outstanding.  They work in acres not hours.  They work until their work is done.  As Mother Nature does have the upper hand, along with our Father in Heaven.

This is me being silly with a Snap filter while designing in the card office area of our home. A girls got to have fun. Whether it be farming or stamping. You will soon discover that about me.  Whatever I am doing it is intentional and deliberate.   But aren't most of us like that.  We are out to help others as we would like them to help us.  Amen.

Anyone who wishes to be serious yet be silly in a fun unharmful way you are my community. Growing up with five siblings, myself being the oldest, I had a lot of responsibilities helping our stay at home mom, big garden, and raising cows pigs chickens. Just to name a few. My dad often told us, it’s the smell of money!  I grew up on a farm and then married a farmer. Moved three miles south to the family homestead.  Now our son, daughter in law, and three grandsons enjoy the Victorian Style Home.

Fast forward after almost 50 years of marriage, I do get to drive the tractor to catch grain from the combine. Then find the semi and unload the grain.  Hurry back to the combine again and again.  It’s our goal to keep the combine combining consistently.  The grain catcher gets quite the work out.  Actually it takes a well oiled team to make things run smoothy.  About the time harvest ends, we know our jobs and others expectations well.

This is my rig.  Quite a nice office with windows, a monitor, a computer that tracks the bushels unloaded and a nice fan.  I don't like it warm.  If the air is circulating cool I can comfortably drive from sunrise to sunset.  But when the sunsets, I get disoriented.  The field becomes a maze of corn stalks.
Here in North Central Iowa we are really dry.  At times when the combine is closer or the wind is really blowing strong, it is a blizzard.  Believe it or not, there were two days we choose not to combine as the wind MPH was too high.  Causing a potential fire hazzard.
To prove how dry it was.  Look at the message I wrote on our mailbox for the mailman.  Never did think to ask him if he noticed or not.  I am sure he did.  As he is the best!  Always delivers about the same time Monday through Saturday.  Rain sleet or snow...they deliver our mail.
Our insurance agent delivered a hot meal to us in the field on the perfect day.  We were finishing up our combining in Wright County for the year.  She and another gal, were a happy sight to see.  The meal was the best ever.

Believe it or not. This blog was started in the tractor while waiting for the semis to return to the field. Amazing technology we have today!! As I want to do it all.
